Brown Sugar Chocolate officially began one Thanksgiving Day when my family decided it was time for my chocolates and caramels to be shared by many instead of just keeping it a good family secret. We all started firing off possible company names but my brilliant husband nailed it-Brown Sugar Chocolate Company. It’s perfect! It says it all - Brown happens to be our family name, and sugar and chocolate is what we use to make so many great tasting confections.
But to really understand the behind the scenes story we have to go back a bit further. I am one of those people with multiple food allergies. It’s annoying, but it got way better when I figured out if I made my own chocolates and caramels I could avoid all of the scary things and still be part of the party. So, the experiments began and before long I was making some pretty good stuff without added gluten, corn or corn syrup, eggs or strange additives. In fact, my impartial judges (wink wink) told me I could make it in the chocolate business.
